Middleware Engineer (WAS Expert | Banking)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert support and operations for WebSphere Application Server (WAS) alongside other middleware platforms like JBoss/Wildfly, Tomcat, Jetty, IIS, and MQ Series.
  • Ensure reliability, availability, and performance of WAS environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve incidents, problems, and service requests related to WAS and middleware services.
  • Collaborate with development, project, and business teams to deliver integration and migration project goals.
  • Drive continuous improvements in middleware operations using automation and performance tuning.
  • Participate in DevOps activities including CI/CD pipelines, continuous monitoring, and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and workflows related to WAS and middleware platforms.
  • Engage in on-call support rotation and shift work as required.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5-8 years of hands-on experience with middleware technologies, especially IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS).
  • Familiarity with other middleware platforms such as JBoss, Wildfly, Tomcat, Apache Kafka, and container platforms (Docker/Kubernetes) is a plus.
  • Proficient with Linux, Unix, and/or Windows operating systems.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (Nagios, ServiceNow, Geneos) and scripting languages (Java, Shell, Python, PowerShell).
  • Knowledge of ITIL Service Management framework (Incident, Problem, Change).
  • Experience with DevOps tools (Jenkins, Ansible, Git) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) preferred.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, customer-focused mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior DevOps engineering experience.
  • Background in banking or financial services sector is advantageous.

Additional info:

  • This role is offered on a yearly renewable contract basis, with the potential for permanent employment based on performance.
  • Able to support rotational shift scheduled based on duty roaster (Paris and/or New York and/or Asia time zone).
  • Able to provide on-call support during non-business hours/and or on weekends.
